ABSTRACT
The paper examines the European Court of Human Rights’ approach to the problem of establishing the sincerity of religiously motivated claims of privileged treatment, focussing upon the different types of litigation that call for this kind of evidence, as well as the Court’s criteria for allocating the burden of proof and assessing individual conduct from the standpoint of consistency.
