ABSTRACT
On 19 December 2019 the Agreement between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Central Council of the Jews in Germany was signed, for the constitution of a military Rabbinate, or rather to better say its reconstitution, given that during the First World War the army German already had a corps of military rabbis for spiritual assistance to the Jewish military. This new agreement does not only aim to ensure spiritual assistance to the Jewish military in the Bundeswehr, but also to strengthen ethical guidelines and sensitivity against anti-Semitism. The inclusion, alongside only the other two components present, the Catholic one and the Evangelical-Lutheran one, of the Jewish component in spiritual assistance, and the feasibility studies that are being done for the Islamic component, having a whole series of precise provisions to observe from food bans to shabbat rest, it makes the system more complex, but not more fragile, on the contrary: it makes it more responsive to the democratic and plural structure of the Bundeswehr and, consequently, of Germany.
