ABSTRACT
Religious freedom and equality are concepts with which the Muslim world has always been confronted. However, assuming them as fundamental rights of each human being presupposes the selection of juridical instruments aimed at promoting their operation also in legal systems based on traditions and cultures different from those of the West. From this point of view, the Marrakech Declaration and the Charter of the New Alliance of Virtues have been the forerunners of a reflection aimed at bringing the themes of fundamental principles and freedoms back to the center of inter-religious (and political) dialogue of the Islamic countries. In this perspective, the two Charters are bound to become a creative model of a new global citizenship and a support for the governance in the field of equality and religious freedom for entire regional areas.
