Abstract
The direct applicability, in each of the Member Countries, of the European regulation 2016/679 on the Protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data, and the simultaneous entry to force of the General decree approved by the Italian Episcopal Conference containing Provisions for the protection of the right to good reputation and confidentiality, were the starting point for this contribution. The Author, in fact, proposes to analyze the canon law on the protection of personal data, in the awareness of the specific contribution that religious communities can offer, also in this matter, to the European Union, based on the common aspiration to the recognition of the unique and irreducible value of the person and his dignity.
