ABSTRACT
Religions are a barrier against fundamentalism. The true reasons for fundamentalism are to be found in the epistemological level that has thought the world as a closed universal. Political theology with the secularization of political and juridical concepts had as a factual consequence the genesis of the totalitarianisms of the twentieth century. The economic theology that followed imposed a closed fundamentalism of the prevalence of mercantile over all things. Both have proposed false idols such as linear progress and the invisible hand of the market, failing. At the present time, through the recovery of the personalist thought of religious matrix in continuity with a renewed scientific vision open to the residual, a third Theology seems possible: Theology of the “Ultimo”. In this sense, the attempt is made to open the reflection on the theological level to the manifestation of the principle of dignity as an intangible nucleus of human rights, starting from the consideration that “the last ones are the first ones and the first ones shall be judged by the last ones in terms of dignity”.
