Abstract
The essay traces the history of the greek community in Leghorn during the early modern age and especially in the eighteenth century. The study analyzes the causes of the split of the natio graeca in two groups, one in communion with Rome and the other schismatic. The last one was erected in a brotherhood by decision of the grand-duke of Tuscany and had a certain freedom, at least in internal affairs, while was subjected to a control for all external religious manifestations. On the other hand, the greek catholics suffered a strong jurisdictionalism by the tuscan magistrates.
