ABSTRACT
To recognize and to study the art of the Sicilian painter Renato Guttuso could seem hard to balance with the methodological needs of juridical sciences.
By adopting a deeper point of view, the biography and the works of Guttuso anyway show a series of issues peculiarly important in both Ecclesiastical and Canon Law studies: the relevance of regional practices, the relationships between secularization, spirituality and disobedience, the high hopes of the democratic Constitution, the reforms concerning civil rights and political liberties.
The aim of this essay is to give these elements back to their own legal implications. Guttuso, member of the Parliament, intellectual, artist, has been the expression of a specific political culture, but he reworked the sense of universal feelings, never rejecting them.
