The description of the Canterbury’s pilgrimage to Thomas Becket’s tomb of contained in Geoffrey Chaucer’s “Canterbury Tales” can be a useful starting point for reconstructing the medieval English ecclesiastical context. The contribution delves into the religious significance of the city of Canterbury and highlights the internal contradictions in 14th- century English civil and religious society.
